Am I Wrong

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.
- Aldous Huxley, "Music at Night", 1931

I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.
-George Eliot

Listening to: 'Am I Wrong' by Keb' Mo'

I must say, there is nothing like a warm day sitting on the patio listening to my tunes and dreaming about the meanings therein. Music seems to touch a piece of my soul that is hard to explain in words. My secret passion has been to be a lyricist for the last 7 years or so. I long to bring a deepness to people's lives...to make them think, dream, make a change, fall in love, gain inner strength, cry, laugh, etc.

My friends tease me about how I can turn any topic or word into a song, but I come by it honestly. The love of music started for me when I was a young girl...my mom would sing all the time around the house and it became our thing to just belt out a song in regards to something we were talking about or when a favorite song came on the radio. Then, as a teenager music became a place of healing and dreaming. I remember just hanging out in my room listening to Debbie Gibson's "Lost in your Eyes' and dreaming about Jason P. and crying over his unrequited love (or whatever the crush of the week was!)...

...I get weak, in a glance....isn't this, what's called romance....and now I know, cuz when I'm lost I can't let goooooooooooo. I don't mind not knowing what I'm headed for, you can take me to the skyyyyys, it's like being lost in heaveeeen when I'm lost in your eyes....

Here are some of my favorites by era:

1970's (when I was first introduced to music and saw how it affected those around me):
*Knock on Wood - by Amii Stewart (one of my mom's favs!)
*Brown Eyed Girl - by Van Morrison (it's about girls with brown eyes like me! Also, a bf in College made me a tape with this song so it brings me back)
*Abracadabra - by The Steve Miller Band
*Piece of my Heart - by Janis Joplin
...and finally, the BeeGees (enough said!)

1980's (where music became the topic of many youthful conversations, and Madonna came into my world!):
*ALL Madonna, ALL the time!
*I Love a Rainy Night by Eddie Rabbitt (the only song with my nick name sort of in it, lol)
*Anything NKOB (New Kids on the Block has all the 'right stuff'...wooo whooo).
*She Drives Me Crazy by the Fine Young Cannibals
*Girl You Know it's True by Milli Vanilli (or so we thought!)

1990's (the main teen years, becoming a Christian, and through College days):
*U Can't Touch This by MC Hammer
*Opposites Attract, Forever Your Girl, Straight up by Paula Abdul
*Love Song by Tesla
*Cherry Pie by Warrant
*Love Takes Time by Bryan Duncan
*Everything by Steven Curtis Chapman

Current Day Artists (tends to have a folkie flare):
*Fergie
*Brett Dennen
*Carrie Underwood
*Colbie Caillat
*Damien Rice
*downhere
....and too many more to name here

Anyways, Music means just as much if not more to me today. I'm a sucker for a great lyric and beat which can make for a somewhat embarrassing play list at times but it's my music and it means something to me! Not sure why I wrote such a strange journal entry. Anyways, just an introduction as I'm sure many of my entries are going to have song lyrics or references! I hope you find some of my likes appealing as well.

Hope you are having a great Spring!

Verse Of The Day

Life Verse

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11, New King James Version)

Keepin' It Real!

I'm just Raini from the block...trying to wade through this journey of life. Here in lay the deep, funny, random thoughts of this 30 something gal. I am a Christian, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, an animal lover, still looking for love and finding new ways to ward off the loneliness that can sometimes follow when you're flying solo! So, grab a cup of java...relax...take a deep breath and jump into the abyss of my thoughts. I welcome you!
